JOHN
NÉMETH BAND
Singer,
harmonica player, and songwriter John Németh is a rising star in
the Blues world. “Blowing like Little Walter and singing in styles
that range from the pathos of a young Jimmy Reed to the suppleness of Nat
King Cole, he channels the greats with a verve that’s imagination, not
imitation.” - Dallas Morning News. “John Németh is a natural-born
Bluesman, and he proves it with every note he sings, shaping each one with
emotion, taste and inspiration. John's expressive Blues harp playing answers
his voice and fulfills his songs when he solos.” - Bob Margolin.
A decade ago, Németh was playing blues clubs in Boise when he caught the attention of Frankie Lee and his band, who introduced him to Junior Watson. By 2002, he was touring with Watson. The Cascade Blues Association selected Németh as a crowd favorite at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival in 2002, and the Washington Blues Society called him the show stealer at the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival in 2003. Németh was a featured artist with Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets in 2005 and 2006. John recorded his first CD Come And Get It with the Junior Watson Band in 2004. His first release on the Blind Pig label Magic Touch (2007) netted him a Blues Music Award nomination for Best New Artist.
Németh’s newest release, Love Me Tonight (2009), is a tribute to the Chicago blues of the 50’s and 60’s. This collection of love songs demonstrates how the blues of that era incorporated soul and rock, while keeping true to the blues. The album debuted at #10 on Billboard Blues Chart in February of 2009 and re-entered the chart in October. John was recently nominated for a Blues Music Award for Best Male Blues Artist. “Németh never sounds less than committed to this material and often pushes the performances into the red zone with assistance from a sturdy backing quartet. Whether he's singing or working the harp, Németh is one of the finest young additions to the soul blues scene.” - AllMusic.
Chris
“Kid” Andersen was born in Telemark, Norway in 1980. A blues fan
since childhood, Andersen fell in love with the music of Lightnin’ Hopkins,
Junior Watson, and the Kings (B.B., Albert and Freddie). By the time
he was 18, Kid was backing American blues stars who came through Norway,
including Homesick James, Nappy Brown and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith.
He moved to California at age 20, and released four solo albums before
joining blues harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite’s band in 2004, a gig
that lasted until Kid joined Rick Estrin & The Nightcats in 2008. Preview
the show online.
