JOE
LOUIS WALKER
Multiple
Grammy & WC Handy Award winning guitarist Joe Louis Walker has earned
himself a host of dedicated fans who appreciate his guitar prowess and
evocative voice, his electrifying stage presence, and the creativity of
his recordings. His discography includes 18 solo albums and countless
compilations and guest appearances. He has recorded with BB King,
James Cotton, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Branford Marsalis, and Ike Turner.
Walker came from a musical family, citing T-Bone Walker, BB King, and Amos Milburn as early influences. He first picked up the guitar at the age of 8 and was a regular on the Bay Area scene by the age of 16. In his early career, Walker played with a variety of Blues greats, including John Lee Hooker , Otis Rush, Thelonius Monk, Willie Dixon, John Mayall, Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix.
By 1986, Walker had formed his own band, the Bosstalkers, and had released his debut album Cold Is The Night. Other notable releases followed including Blues Survivor (1993) an early example of melding blues with gospel, jazz, soul, funk and rock influences; “Everybody's Had the Blues” (1993) the Grammy winning duet with BB King; and Great Guitars (1997) which was one of the best selling blues albums of the decade. Since 2000, Walker has continued to release albums on a regular basis while living in France and touring in Europe. In 2005, he moved back to the US and his newest recording Between a Rock and the Blues (Stony Plain Records, 2009) is scheduled for release on September 29.
