Meeting Notes – Augu= st 10, 2006      <= o:p>

            President John called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m., managing to hang onto the b= ell and gavel without Aimee’s assistance! Howie led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Roger J led us in a forgettable song. Kevin provided the invocation.

            Our only guest was incoming Lt. Governor Bob Maxwell. Bob A reported on Feed The Homeless. There was a lot of food and we fed approximately 70-90 people, ma= ny for seconds! Cathy reminded members that Sunday, August 13 is the Big Broth= ers/Big Sisters event at Madonna Ranch. Members need to be there at 2:15 p.m. for t= he 3-6 p.m. event and are asked to wear jeans and a white button-down shirt.

            President John lamented that brother Rich has yet to bring forth the petition to impe= ach him. Time is running out Rich! Kevin’s installation scheduled for September 1 has been rescheduled to SEPTEMBER 21. It will begin at 6 p.m. at the Spirit of San Luis at the SLO Airport. That day’s lunch meeting w= ill be a Round Table and the business meeting will be during the installation meeting.

            Bob Maxwell reminded members that the September DCM is on Tuesday, the fifth. H= appy hour is from 5 – 6 p.m. and a barbecue dinner will be served at 6 p.m.  Dinner cost is $18. This= is also Lt. Governor-elect Maxwell’s installation dinner meeting. Tom O’Malley is hosting the meeting in his home along with the Atascadero Club. Please RSVP to Bob by August 31 at 466-9605 or atasbob@aol.com.

            President John reported that we had the best Board meeting ever in August! Autumn graciously (and efficiently!) provided coffee and dessert as well as memo p= ads & other accoutrements. Thanks to Justin for bringing Autumn into the Cl= ub. It was a “first class meeting.”

            As far as business, the Board discussed membership recruitment. Cathy is spearheading the development of a brochure for use in informing others about who we are and what we do and why, et. al. The Board also voted to contribu= te $100 to Kiwanis International, something that ALL clubs in our Division have done so Lt. Governor Doug will be “distinguished.”

            It was decided to have Hilding as a back up to today’s program in case Vaughn Taus is a no show.  Apparently both Vaughn and Hilding are no-shows and there will be no program today. Even though Stew Jenkins has not been active for many months= in the club he is providing a speaker for the August 31 meeting. Fred Collins, spokesman for the Northern Chumash Council, will speak to us about the Chum= ash history as well as some recent legislation that protects Native American historic and religious sites.

            Bob A told a golf joke about an Irishman playing a round in Scotland. Dan H also had a joke and Kyker told a funny office anecdote.

            Fine master Bart took over and Roger J immediately bought $1 of “fine insurance” after kissing up to Bart during the meeting. Justin began = by giving $2 happy that his cousin who was hurt in a chain saw accident at Bass Lake was okay and ended up giving a total of $10 after seeing Bart driving Denise’s Porsche!

            Fitz was $5 sad about spending three hours in a dentist’s chair the previo= us day but also happy about his recent vacation in Astoria where he attended a Kiwanis meeting – only eight members in attendance but a good speaker. Rich paid $5 as he arrived late and left early due to a heavy workload. Bob Maxwell gave sad bucks for the Key Club’s recent hospitalization.

            Pila’s son is celebrating his 6th birthday for which she generously contributed $6. President C is both happy and sad. He is happy that his you= ngest daughter is graduating with her PhD but sad that he has to fly to Minnesota= for the ceremony due to the terrorist incident.

            Kevin was $10 happy for his recent 10-day vacation with his family to Maine to vi= sit friends and relax – it was the longest vacation he could remember! Ba= rt gave a sad buck because somebody backed into Denise’s Porsche and den= ted it! (He was very nearly in tears, explaining that it was like “your c= hild being hurt”!

            When Bart inquired about the Secret Greeter both Howie (and of course) Gary stoo= p up and he promptly fined them both a buck for lying as HE was the Secret Greet= er. Bob A was the only unfriendly member but he had been Fine Free (before being assigned the Joke of the Week) so…

            Lt. Governor-elect Maxwell spoke to us briefly about his upcoming term. One of = his projects is to assemble a Division-wide Directory of all clubs and their officers. He is selling ads and welcomed any of us to buy an ad. A business card ad is $30; one-half page is $60 and a full page is $100. Please talk w= ith Bob after the meeting if you are interested as the deadline is near for printing.
