President Kevin called the meeting to order at 12:15 p= .m. Holly led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Rich led us in singing “Maryland, My Maryland” followed by an invocation by Janice.
Shane introduced guest Bridgitte Kramer. Justin introd= uced Kevin, his co-worked from Mid-State Bank. Jim F. introduced returning visit= or and prospective member Roy. Fitz introduced wife Anne, = brother Shannon and his wife Laurie.
Secret Greete= r: Bridgitte found many members unfriendly and all paid a buck for not shaking her hand.
Joke of the Week: Ron was ill prepare= d to tell a joke but always-ready Dan had one ready!
Soap Box: Don Mc passed so Dan told a jo= ke. Cathy followed suit and told a blond joke. Other members jumped in and we a= lso heard jokes from Rich (politically incorrect but very funny!), brother John and Howie!
Fine Free: Holly made sure every member had a= pen and writing pad from Founders Bank!
Announcements= : Sandy briefly reported on Feed the Homeless. President Kevin reminded us of several upcoming dates of importan= ce. This month’s DCM is in Atascadero at the Pavilion Park in downtown. A barbecue dinner for $15 each will be served.
Janice reported there are still tickets for sale. Cathy reported on progress collecting items for silent auction for the Reverse Drawing. More items are needed so please talk with Cathy. She also needs he= lp with “Cashiering” at the event so volunteers are welcome.
Justin reported that the Nominating Committee has sele= cted a slate of officers for the 2007-08 year. In addition to his presidency, vice-president is Cathy C. Jim H. will take over as treasurer and Milt will remain as secretary. He moved to accept the slate of officers and Dan secon= ded. All members voted in favor of the Slate as is.
Justin also gave a brief report on the Board meeting.<= /p>
Fitz was on hand to serve as Fine Master and extract b= ucks. He began by picking on Cathy so she paid a buck. Jim F. gave a happy buck, = as did Fitz for his being here. Ron was a buck happy that Sandy is much better= .
John C. had mixed money. He was sad that he missed Boa= rd meeting and was unable to feed the homeless but he is happy he is here unharmed. Hilding gave $5 happy for his three-week trip to Italy and Switzerland. He could not find any Kiwanis Clubs and Heathrow Airport was a “hassle”! Don V. topped that with $10 happy for his recent trip= to the Alsace region of France and Amsterdam.
Howie was $4 happy for the really cute birthday card (= he passed it around0 from his granddaughter. Pila gave a buck for Dan filling = in during her absence last week. Jim H. gave sad dollars for not being able to feed the homeless due to illness and the death of two clients.
Program Speak= er: Fitz formally introduced Anne Carp= enter. She has her bachelors in art and a masters in computer science. Anne was ra= ised in an environment that fostered love of the arts. Her father was musical and played the piano and her mother was very much into arts and crafts. “Creativity was a way of life. There is a lot of beauty in the world,= ” Anne shared.
Anne’s paternal grandfather was an artist who pa= inted the Sierra Mountains among other subjects. He was the publicity photographer for Flying A Studio in Santa Barbara and shot portraits of many actors and actresses of the day. Anne shared many of her grandfather’s photos fr= om Flying A Studio, most of which were autographed by the star in the picture.=
Anne displayed nearly a dozen of her own photographs. = All oversize prints were beautifully framed and ranged from a picture of morning glories clinging a white picket gate to reflections of a car. One photograph beautifully captures the serenity of the hills and valleys around Templeton. That photograph won Judges Award and First Place at this summer’s Mid-State Fair.
Anne enjoys the combination of art and computers using= a digital Canon camera and an Epson color printer. She exhibits her work in t= wo galleries in two states (California and Oregon). Next year she has been ask= ed to judge photographs at Mid-State Fair. This very visual program was enjoye= d by all and followed by several questions.
